Child Parent Relational Therapy

In this form of therapy, parents are taught how to act as therapeutic agents for their children. This means that parents are given all the skills of a beginning play therapist. Over the course of about 10 weeks, parents learn how to effectively listen to their children and encourage their growth through the power of play. At the end of the course, parents will understand how to respond to their children's emotionality and engage with them therapeutically.

Benefits of CPRT include less stressful interactions between parents and children, better emotional regulation in children, and a stronger bond between children and parents. This therapy is appropriate for children ages 3-12.

The commitment to CPRT involves attending 10 weekly sessions either one-on-one with a trained play therapist, or in a group setting with other parents and a play therapist facilitator. Parents are also required to spend 20 minutes one-on-one is Special Playtime with their child utilizing the skills they learn every week. That's it! 20 minutes per week is all it takes to strengthen your relationship with your child.
